Contacts

Set up CardDAV

Sync your Locari contacts to iPhone, iPad, Android, macOS, Outlook, or Thunderbird — one-time setup, automatic updates from then on.

With CardDAV sync, your Locari contacts are available on all your devices: iPhone, iPad, Android (DAVx5), macOS, Windows Outlook (plugin), and Thunderbird. After the one-time setup, changes sync automatically — no manual export needed.

What Locari provides: A CardDAV server your devices can read contacts from. What you set up: One device password per device and the connection in the respective app. No third-party account required.

Common Tasks

  • Create a device password
  • Set up iPhone or iPad
  • Set up Android with DAVx5
  • Set up macOS Contacts
  • Set up Windows Outlook
  • Delete a device password

How to

Create a device password

  1. Open Contacts, click Mobile Sync in the top right — you will be taken to User settings → Connections.
  2. Click New device, enter a name (e.g. "Erik's iPhone" or "Office MacBook").
  3. The generated password is shown once — copy it immediately.
  4. Use the password during device setup (steps below).

The device password is shown only once. If you did not save it, delete the password and create a new one.

iOS / iPadOS

Automatic via QR code (recommended):

  1. Create a device password (see above) — the page then shows a QR code.
  2. Scan the QR code with the iPhone/iPad camera app.
  3. Tap "Profile downloaded" in Settings.
  4. Install the profile and enter the device password.

Manual setup:

  1. Settings → Contacts → Accounts → Add account → Other → CardDAV account.
  2. Enter the server URL (displayed and copyable on the connections page).
  3. Username: your Locari email address. Password: device password.
  4. Tap Next → Save.

Android (DAVx5)

  1. Install DAVx5 from the Google Play Store.
  2. Open DAVx5 → + → Login with URL.
  3. Enter the server URL (copy from the connections page), your email, and device password.
  4. Tap Create account — DAVx5 syncs your contacts.

Example: Portfolio manager Daniela sets up DAVx5 on her Android tablet and has all 45 contacts from her portfolio automatically available in the native contacts app.

macOS

  1. System Settings → Internet Accounts → Add Account → Other Account → CardDAV Account.
  2. Account type: Advanced. Copy and paste the server URL from the connections page.
  3. Username: your Locari email. Password: device password.
  4. Click Sign in — contacts appear in the macOS Contacts app.

Windows Outlook (plugin)

Outlook does not support CardDAV natively. The free open-source plugin CalDav Synchronizer is required.

  1. Download and install CalDav Synchronizer from caldavsynchronizer.org.
  2. Restart Outlook → CalDav Synchronizer → Synchronization Profiles.
  3. Click Add → create a CardDAV profile, enter server URL, email, and device password.
  4. Click OK — the plugin syncs on the next Outlook start.

Thunderbird (TbSync)

  1. In Thunderbird: Add-ons → install TbSync and Provider for CalDAV & CardDAV.
  2. TbSync → Add account → CalDAV & CardDAV.
  3. Enter server URL, your Locari email, and device password → click Create account.

Connections and Fields

Connections page — device passwords

Accessible via Contacts → Mobile Sync or directly at User settings → Connections:

  • Device name — freely chosen for identification (e.g. "Erik's iPhone")
  • Status — Active (connection established)
  • Last used — date of most recent sync
  • Actions — delete password

Server URL and credentials (for manual setup)

  • Server URL: https://app.locari.ai/api/carddav/principals/{your-user-id}/ (copyable with one click on the connections page)
  • Username: your Locari email address
  • Password: the device password created above (not your Locari login password)

Delete a device password

Delete the password from the device first, before removing it in Locari. If you only remove it in Locari, the device will keep trying to connect. After 5 failed attempts, your IP address will be blocked for 15 minutes.

Order of operations:

  1. Device: remove the account or profile in the respective app.
  2. Locari: User settings → Connections → delete password.

Device-specific removal steps:

  • iOS: Settings → General → VPN & Device Management → "LOCARI Contacts" → Remove profile.
  • macOS: System Settings → Internet Accounts → "LOCARI" → Remove account.
  • Android (DAVx5): Open DAVx5 → select account → menu → Delete account.
  • Outlook: CalDav Synchronizer → Synchronization Profiles → select profile → Delete.
  • Thunderbird: TbSync → select account → Remove account.

Permissions and Multi-select

  • Create device passwords: each team member for their own user account.
  • View or delete another member's passwords: only administrators.
  • Visible via CardDAV: all contacts of the owner account — the full contact list is synced per device password.
  • Number of devices: no technical limit — one password per device is recommended.
  • Edit the contact list in Locari: Contacts — create, edit, filter by category and type.
